Local police departments continue to get calls about phone scams. Examples are; 1. A caller will say they are from the IRS and money is owed to the government, if not paid, you will be arrested; 2. A caller says they are from a utility company, owes money and will be arrested; 3. A caller will say a family member has been arrested and needs money for bail.  First the IRS would never call, text or e-mail. Second, the IRS never demands immediate payment.  Be wary if you are asked to act immediately. Do not wire money or use a prepaid debit card.

If you receive any suspicious calls, notify your local police department.  If you think you might owe taxes contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 or at  If you know you don’t owe taxes, report the incident to the Deparment of the Treasurey at 800-366-4484 or
